Overview

The history of telephony starts with the public switched telephone network (PSTN), which is the worldwide circuit-switched telephone network made up of open and private networks. Voice over IP (VoIP) is the most recent telephone technology which is able to provide advanced services to both purchasers and organizations at a reduced cost. Intro to IP Telephony course students will history and activity of the PSTN and VoIP and compare the two innovations.
In this course students will review the TCP/IP protocol and basic routing and cover such VoIP elements as analog and digital interfaces, numbering and dial plans, gateways and gatekeepers, and the different protocols used in VoIP operation. After completion of this course students will be able to address major quality issues, such as delay and jitter, as well as security issues such as confidentiality and spoofing.
